In Memoriam - Toby
Toby came to us in June 1997; he was a four year old, very large and boisterous yellow Labrador. His CV had listed a number of commands that he would obey but as he ran enthusiastically around the house and garden it became very apparent that he could be very selective with what he heard.
He very quickly took to living in the country enjoying long walks and swimming in our local rivers and canal. Toby's genuine friendliness and playful gentle nature earned him many admirers whilst out on our daily walk circuits. Strangers would stop to chat with him or give him a pat and would say to us 'what a handsome fellow, or what a lovely dog'. We would just look at each other and smile thinking identical thoughts that we felt so very proud that Toby was our dog and gave us that joy daily.

During his time with us Toby enjoyed many holidays. He walked in the Dales, Trossachs, and Cotswolds. He ran, swam, and paddled in the lochs on Skye, and was a frequent visitor to Cornwall, enjoying the delights of the beaches of St Ives and could always be relied upon to lead us to the pubs and fish and chip shops along the harbour front.

Toby was well known for his good living and enjoyment of luxurious home comforts. He would happily laze away many hours reclining on our leather sofa, and despite having a large wicker basket with duvet lining, he preferred to spend his nights curled up on our king-size bed.
His love of fine food was legendary amongst all who knew him, however, he was not a fussy dog and would eat anything and everything left within his reach. He was extremely adept at creating a distraction that would enable him to achieve whatever food orientated goal he had in mind at any given time.

For nine wonderful years Toby filled our lives with joy and laughter, and indeed those of our families, friends, and neighbours. He was loved and trusted by all who knew him. His companionship, loyalty, trust, and love filled our everyday with happiness and contentment. He was a true friend to us both in every sense and our deepest heartfelt thanks go to The Labrador Rescue Trust for the privileged time we had with Toby.
